Uttapam toast

Ingredients

Bread slices. – 4-5

Dosa batter – small quantity about a cup

Onion – 1 finely chopped

Coriander leaves- finely chopped

Green chili – 1 finely chopped

Dosa molagapoddi ( chutney powder) – 1-2 tsp

Method

Take a dosa tava and heat it. Place a teaspoon or two of oil on it. Dip a slice of bread into the dosa batter .( Alternatively you may just spread some batter on both sides of the bread instead of dipping in batter – in this method the sides of the bread come out crisper and hence tastier).

Place the slice on the hot tava.

You can now add the chopped onion, green chilli and coriander leaves on the bread.

Sprinkle some molagapuddi on it .

Flip the bread when the under surface is cooked and starts leaving the tava . It begins to turn brownish. Takes only a minute or two.

Now gently press the bread slice so that the onion sticks well to the under surface.

You may dribble a little oil from the sides for the under surface to cook and become crisp.

The uttapam toast is now ready to serve and eat hot as it is . There is no need for any accompaniment.

Tips.

Salt is not added as both the dosa batter and molagapodi powder already have salt.

You may add grated carrots , chopped tomatoes and capsicum if you want.

My mother used to make this for me and my sister when we were little as we weren’t too fond of dosas then.
