Akki Roti – Akki in kannada means rice. So akki roti refers to rice roti. Since i am born and bred in Delhi, roti for me always meant wheat roti.
It is three years since i have moved to Bangalore and slowly i am getting acquainted with Kannadiga dishes. Akki roti is one such popular delicacy relished by everyone.
Ingredients:
rice flour 500 gms, grated cucumber 2 , grated carrots 2 , grated onions 2 , 1 cup grated coconut, finely chopped green chillies 6 , finely chopped ginger 2 teaspoons , finely chopped coriander leaves 1 medium cup , curry leaves a little , jeera 1-2 teaspoon , 1 cup curd , salt 2 teaspoon or as per taste
We can make 15 rotis with this quantity.

Directions:
1. Take a bowl and put all the above ingredients and mix it well.

2. Slowly adding water, knead it into a dough which should be a little sticky – neither as tight as roti dough nor very watery.

3. Take a banana leaf or butter paper. Grease it with oil and take a medium size dough.( Keep water in a small bowl so that you can wet your hand)
4. Spread it on the banana leaf/ butter paper slowly wetting your hand.

5. Put tawa on the gas stove and after it gets heated, simmer the flame and place the banana leaf/ butter paper upside down slowly on the tawa.
6. Remove the banana leaf/ butter paper and applying oil cook both the sides slowly.

7. Hot and tasty akki roti is ready.
8. You can have it plain or with any chutney of your choice. My favourite is green chilli chutney.
